Another « TOUR EIFFEL » tour

A second “TOUR EIFFEL” tour Thanks to the participants, as for the first tour, a very good atmosphere, despite the rain 🌧 that kept us company throughout the visit. A tour that allowed us to evoke many aspects of the Iron Lady and to admire her from many different angles (we even finished under the tower). 14 miles visiting Paris while running to prepare the New-York marathon, with Jess

Jess – “Pont des Arts” (Bridge of the Arts) and view on the Island of the City (“île de la Cité”) 7h11 – Jess, marathon runner of New York (USA), in business trip in Paris, had two objectives by making a running tour: discover Paris and make a long run to prepare the New York marathon. We thus made a running of 14 miles (23 km) in Paris, distance which allows a beautiful visit of the city and the discovery of its numerous aspects. At first, a short pause to remember the objective, 26.2 miles (42.195 km) in New York: Jess – Avenue de New-York Then, from the avenue of New York, a small ascent (light preparation of the hilly New York marathon route) to join the Esplanade of the Trocadéro, the most beautiful view on the Eiffel Tower: Jess – “Esplanade du Trocadéro” We then leave the Eiffel Tower by the “Champ de Mars”: Jess – “Champ de Mars” Formerly used for military maneuvers, the Champ de Mars is now an ideal training ground for the runners: firm and supple hard-packed surface, buckle of 2 km, garden always opened (without railings), enlightened paths… Perfect circuit for the early morning runners! Much more east of Paris, it is on the sandy soil of the Lutetia arenas that we ran: Jess – “Arènes de Lutèce” Nowadays, we meet “pétanque” players or amateur soccer players there… About 2 000 years ago, there, we could see gladiators fighting, wild animals and also theater plays. Paris, at the time, was Roman and was called Lutetia. Of course, we did not miss numerous majors places of Paris, for example, the “Pont des Arts” (as we can see in the first photo of this article with its beautiful view on the Island of the City) or the Louvre Pyramid: Jess – The Louvre pyramid Since this sports stroll in Paris, Jess ran the marathon of New York with a beautiful performance.  Paris Running Tour hopes to have contributed to this a little… 😉 Merci Jess ! At the “Champ de Mars” with Sylvie

Sylvie – Eiffel tower 8:00 AM – Sylvie from Montreal (Canada) came to Paris for a short stay. We took advantage of this morning run to do a nice visit of Paris. On this Friday morning, the cold weather arrived to Paris. Having dressed our winter runners’ clothes, we ran along a buckle of 10 kilometers by way of the “esplanade of the Invalides”, the Tuileries, the Champs Elysées.   At the end of the tour, we passed by the “esplanade of the Palais de Chaillot”, one of the best viewpoints to contemplate the Eiffel Tower. After a small break to make a “photo-souvenir”, we joined the “Champ de Mars” by way of the Iéna bridge. In the Champ de Mars, we were welcomed by very nice bears: Sylvie and the Buddy Bears – Champ de Mars Bears? The Buddy bears! Yes, after Berlin, Kitzbühel, Hong-Kong, Istanbul, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Vienna, Cairo, Jerusalem, Warsaw, Stuttgart, Pyongyang, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Astana, Helsinki, Sofia, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi and Saint-Petersburg, among others, “United Buddy Bears” settled down in Paris this October. They will stay there until November 18th, 2012.These 140 Buddy Bears represent the 140 countries recognized by United Nations. They wish to present the art of the tolerance and symbolize the idea of a world in peace in the future. Sylvie with the Buddy Bear of Canada – Sylvie between the Bear of Georgia and the one of France Come to Paris to admire these works of Art and Peace united!Merci Sylvie !The route of the tour :

Routes of a Running Tours guide

Routes of a Paris Running Tour guide (some GPS Garmin Forerunner 405 records, done since May 2008 – Training, competitions, Running tours, …) In Paris Running Tour, the runners-guides know perfectly their city, Paris.  Crossing in great detail the capital almost every day, having created numerous beautiful routes, they can share Paris in a nice way with the visitors-runners who want to discover it. During very early morning runs, some places are very privileged, enlightened axes as banks of the Seine or the Champ de Mars garden, the only park opened permanently: Click to zoom Numerous runners all over the world like sharing a moment of running by showing and by commenting on their city. Many big cities possess “Running Tours” companies. We would like to greet a new one: Atlanta Running Tours  Do you remember Kristy who ran with us? Kristy became Running Tour guide and shares her attractive city of with the sports visitors. We wish her very beautiful races!

At the Champ de Mars with Janet

Janet – Champ de Mars 7:52 AM – Another very sunny day in Paris. With Janet of Singapore, we evoked the competitions in Singapore and in France. Because of the warm temperatures in Singapore, the races begin very early, for example, the departure of the marathon, which takes place in December, is at 5 am in the morning. Janet will redo it certainly this year but also thinks of making the marathon of Paris next year… The tour of this morning allowed us to notice in which point museums are many in Paris. On our route of about 10 kilometers, we crossed successively, the “musée Galliera” (“museum of Fashion “), the “musée Guimet” (“museum of Asian Arts”), la “cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine”, the “musée de l’Homme”, the “musée de la Marine” (Navy), the museum of Arts and Civilizations, the museums of the “Invalides”, the museum of the Legion of Honour, the “Musée d’Orsay”, the Louvre, the “Orangerie”, the “Jeu de Paume”, the “Petit Palais”, the “Grand Palais”, the “Palais de la Découverte”! More museums than run kilometers! And the art in Paris is not only in museums but, of course, also in streets. Below, on our route, an example of representative building of the “Art nouveau”: Avenue Rapp Merci Janet ! The route of the tour:

A brightened up week end in Paris with Anne and Niels

The Eiffel tower from the Esplanade of the Trocadéro – Anne and Niels 7:30 AM – Saturday and Sunday – Anne and Niels, from Copenhagen (Denmark), as regular marathoners, chose to run with Paris Running Tour two times, Saturday morning and Sunday morning. We were lucky, despite a rather cold weather, we ran under a fantastic sunlight, which allowed us to fully enjoy our tours. On our way, we saw the “Invalides” (see the picture below), the “Ecole Militaire” (Military school) and ran through the “Champ de Mars“; all these places are linked to war. The Hotel des Invalides was created at the request of Louis XIV to house and take care of injured, maimed or old soldiers (one reason often evoked: Louis XIV liked the glory of his victorious wars but not the – not so glorious – aftermaths in terms of maimed soldiers wandering in the Parisian streets). Inside the Invalides, you can see the tomb of Napoleon. The Invalides (from the south) – Niels and Anne Not so far from the Invalides, the Ecole Militaire founded by Louis XV. Its aim was to educate young (and poor) officers. As the Invalides, it still belongs to the Ministry of Defense. Between the Ecole Militaire and the Eiffel tower, you find a park, the “Champ de Mars“, literally the Field of Mars, Mars being the Roman god of war. It was called “Champ de Mars” by the Romans when they defeated the Gauls there and took Paris (called Lutecia at this period). Then, the Champ de Mars was used to study strategy and to train for war, notably by the Ecole Militaire. Nowadays, the ones who train at the Champ de Mars are runners (among them, sometimes, soldiers from the Ecole Militaire!). Merci Anne and Niels! The routes of the tours (Saturday and Sunday):
